Why the constant directory refresh?

I used to love it. This update, not so much.
If I scroll to say the 59th pic in a directory of 100, then view that pic, all is well. But if I realize I wanted the 69th pic instead and back out to the directory, I find Im right back at the top of the directory again, and have to scroll all the way through again!
It wasnt like this in the past. I cant imagine what advantage such cumbersome browsing was meant to introduce!
